Richard Davis's edition of John Franklin's diaries, 1819-1822, is a tour de force, coming 172 years after the 1823 publication of Franklin's highly acclaimed Narrative. It is augmented by a superb 109-page introduction that includes an assessment of the expedition's important contributions to geomagnetism, 740 informative footnotes, and 155 pages of selected correspondence.
