A new federal government study reveals the extent of organized crime in Canada and the economic cost it imposes on all honest Canadians. Highlights include illicit drug sales of $7-10 billion a year. Environmental crimes, second only to the drug trade in economic costs. Credit card fraud, $127 million in 1997. Telemarketing fraud, $4 billion a year. Money laundering, $5-17 billion a year.
