The following article is an introduction to Saint Therese of Lisieux (France, 1873-1897). If she is declared a Doctor of the Church in 1997, a further article next year will attempt to clarify why.
The spread of Therese's fame began when her prioress decided to circulate to all Carmelite houses a revised version of her autobiography The History of a Soul, with the subtitle "The Little Flower."
