John and Alan Lomax preserved the South's musical diversity, creating a national audience for traditional southern music. The father-son team has recorded southerns and their music in churches, homes, and fields. Their work has become the most complete sonic maps of the South. The Lomax's carried their microphones throughout the region to seek "music with the bark on."
