China's economic prosperity is reflected in its reported (and actual) military budget. China's defense budget has been used to purchase advanced weaponry form the former Soviet Union and exports military technology to Iran and Pakistan. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) was also given the power to aid the country in industrialization. PLA-affiliated companies with ties to high-ranking government officials are believed to have been behind the transfer of illegal arms for sale in America.
