The 1998 ranking of the largest digital prepress companies in the US was affected by the merger trend in the industry. Applied Graphics Technologies topped the list in 1998 because of its purchase of seven companies. Acquisitions also resulted in improvements in the financial figures for 1998. On the other hand, the industry was also influenced by trends such as asset management and reliance in other printing services to compensate for the lowered demand for prepress services.
