There was a decline of 0.6% for US industrial production in July 1998, in large part due to the strike at automobile parts plants of General Motors Corp during June and July 1998. Industrial production in the US rebounded or advanced for most durable consumer goods other than motor vehicles. There was a slight easing of production in nondurable consumer goods in July 1998 and the rates of capacity utilization remained comparatively high.
