Within a few weeks, L.A.-based label Tonga will release the recording debut of Tolú, a Latin jazz band organized in 1983 by saxophonist/clarinet/flutist Justo Almario and drummer/percussionist Alex Acuña. The new disc constitutes a collection of original tunes and renowned standards that combine diverse Antillean and South American rhythms with jazz and funk elements, constructive vocals of Evangelical character, and humorous imitations of certain figures of the Latin music scene.
