The Constitution James Madison envisioned would look different from the one Americans know today, as Madison wanted the 27 amendments interlineated into the Constitution's body and the House of Representatives decided instead to attach them as supplements. The Constitution if Madison's approach to constitutional amendments had prevailed in the first Constitutional Congress is appended. The additions to the original text are highlighted.
