ABERCO INC., Seabrook, Md., says its tests confirm that propylene oxide can be used effectively as a fumigant against various types of insects and should be viewed as a possible replacement for methyl bromide. The company says propylene oxide kills flour beetle adults, larvae and eggs at concentrations as low as 0.1 ounce per cubic foot of sterilizer space when held for four hours in vacuum chambers at ambient temperatures.
