Having grown up on an out island near Nassau, I was always aware of how shallow the Bahamas are. What made the spectacular water varying shades of turquoise and green also made it a tricky place to navigate in anything that drew more than a half-dozen feet. Once, when my family chartered a yacht, we chose the Exumas instead of the Abacos because the latter didn't have enough deep-water harbors in which we could anchor.
So when an offer came to cruise the Abacos in the 120[feet] Feadship Emerald K, which has a 7[feet] draft, I was both intrigued and skeptical. Sacks ...
