Women victimized by domestic abuse have increasingly found themselves charged with failing to protect their children from death by the abuser. The law and society hold women to exert more than reasonable efforts in protecting their children despite the danger to the women's health. Legal assumptions associated with gender place an exceedingly high standard on women and any omission or failure to protect is viewed harshly.
