LARD PRICES REMAIN down because of increased production and exports of pork. A recent lard oil price hike has subsided, following higher slaughter levels during the summer.

Lard prices have been lower in 1998 than during the past two years. Lard is currently around 19 cents per pound after reaching 27 cents per pound because of hog and corn shortages two years ago.
