The concept of "national organic standards" proposed by the United States Department of Agriculture is contradictory. Accepting USDA standards would make an environmentally-friendly food production system into a business, especially because these standards would involve food irradiation as part of production. Locally-produced foods are the most reasonable alternatives to agribusiness's lack of accountability.
