The York pageant cycle connects the calendar year with religiously significant occurrences and instruction. Within the annual framework of Christmas and Easter, or the birth and transformation of God embodied in man, the liturgical aspects of the pageants use Old and New Testament texts to instruct Christians on their relationship and history with God.
