By the close of the 1980s, most major industrial nations were controlling sulfur and nitrogen oxide emissions to reduce acidic deposition. While these efforts met with significant success, recent scientific evidence suggests they may not be enough. The acid rain story is far from over. As emissions into the atmosphere have decreased, omissions in the story have become more evident. The 1990s have added a new chapter of legislation and control, but a conclusion to this hazardous environmental concern has yet to be written.
