Regulations such as the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 have been enacted to emphasize the importance of properly handling, processing, and disposing hazardous wastes. Programs and standards are important for observing safety procedures in transporting the materials. Rules also exist concerning the storage and disposal of hazardous wastes in lagoons and landfills. Furthermore, chemical analysis is required before the wastes can be burned. Environmental protection is emphasized in procedures that use chemicals in processing hazardous materials.
