New Indiana Firms Will Own, Manage Inland Steel Ships on Great Lakes.

Jul. 22--When Netherlands-based Ispat International bought Inland Steel Co. last week, it also sold Inland's fleet of three Great Lakes vessels to comply with federal law.

Those vessels, however, will continue to load taconite pellets in Duluth from Inland's Minorca mine near Virginia. The ore carriers ship them to Inland's steel mill in East Chicago, Ind.

What's different is who owns the ships. The 140 crew members will remain employees of Inland, according to company spokesman David Allen.
