Born in 1939 in the small town of Manicaragua, located in the mountainous Cuban region of El Escambray (Las Villas Province), Tony Alba personally absorbed, at a very young age, the lyrical wealth of his native province's punto guajiro, while assimilating the popular aragonés sound transmitted through the airwaves.

A self-taught percussionist and vocalist, Alba eventually moved to the provincial capital of Santa Clara, where he became one of the original members of Orquesta Aliamén, regarded by many Cuban music buffs as the hottest post-1959 charanga ensemble from the ...
