Integrated conservation and development programs may provide a method of developing the economy in the Lakekuma River Basin Project of Papua New Guinea without destroying the forest and mineral resources. Programs need to address the interests of four different cultural groups that live in the area. Such programs could be used as models for other areas in Micronesia.
