A RISING tide of anger is being vented by owners of Welsh Ponies and Cobs over this month's introduction of microchipping of foals.

Equine and conservation groups are making an eleventh-hour bid for concessions amid concerns that thousands of low value animals will be abandoned by owners unable to absorb the extra cost.

Most at risk are the semi-feral Section A ponies which roam Welsh hillsides.
