The French imperialism has long been over but its legacies still live in the memory of many French people and its colonies. During the imperial era, France has fought to gain supremacy, and its influences over its former colonies can still be observed up to the present time. Some of France colonies, which are now enjoying departmental status, include Guyane, Guadeloupe, Polynesia, New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna.
