The Food Science and Chemical Engineering departments at Chemson University are studying how new biodegradable packaging alternatives may be produced by integrating food protein with nylon. Research efforts have identified soy protein isolate and corn zein as being capable of forming into heat-pressed films. The findings provide evidence that the film formation does not influence the digestibility of the protein and that conformational changes happen in the structure of the protein.
