An environmental master plan to clean up lake Titicaca in Peru's Puno region should be ready by October, according to biologist Edwin Gutierrez of the Titicaca national reserve.
The plan is based on improving wastewater treatment in the area as this is considered the principal cause of contamination in the lake.
"We are preparing a series of activities to promote environmental education that involve, principally, wastewater treatment as well as the preservation of flora and fauna," Gutierrez said.
