A huge fire in the Angeles National Forest churned its way toward Acton, Calif., threatening the Mount Wilson observatory, officials said.
The so-called Station fire has claimed 18 homes and burned through more than 42,500 acres of chaparral and forest, from the edge of metropolitan Los Angeles toward the Mojave desert, The Los Angeles Times reported Monday. More than 12,500 homes were threatened and 6,600 were under mandatory evacuation orders Sunday night.
