U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the patriarch of a political dynasty spanning more than a century, died late Tuesday night, felled by brain cancer that ended a lifetime of public service marked by success and setback, disappointment and redemption.
Mr. Kennedy, the grandson of a mayor, son of an ambassador, brother to a president and the father of a congressman, died at his home in Hyannis Port, not far from the waters of the Atlantic, where he loved to sail his 50-foot schooner Mya.
