Cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis affects 20% to 40% of patients with AIDS end is the leading cause of vision loss associated with AIDS. Three treatment options currently exist (ie, IV administration of antiviral medications, intravitreal injections of ganciclovir, surgical implantation of devices that provide sustained release of ganciclovir).
