Jazz musician Coleman Hawkins was born in St Joseph, MO, to Will and Cordelia Hawkins. Known as one of the best jazz artists, Hawkins' music was characterized by stamping choruses that were supported by expressive techniques. Some of his music credits include 'Hello, Lola,' 'One Hour,' 'Sweet Lorraine,' 'Crazy Rhythm,' and 'Get Happy.' He took into his fold other notable musicians, including Dick Wilson, Budd Johnson, Ben Webster and Charlie Parker. Hawkins died on May 19, 1969.
