AS A boy growing up in Mayo, he used to make the gruelling ascent each year to the summit of Croagh Patrick - then gaze in wonder at the breathtaking beauty of Clew Bay below.

It was a view that Michael Corbett thought he would never see again after he was left paralysed by a car accident in 1975 when he was 16 years old.

But today, in a moving display of loyalty and compassion, 40 of his friends are to take turns ferrying Michael three miles to the summit on a specially designed stretcher.
