The psalter found in the Vitellius manuscript is probably best dated to approximately 1060, and includes a coded reference to Aelfwine. There are other Old English references to an Aelfwine who was the main scribe at the library of New Minster and who became abbot in 1031 or 1032. Evidence later in the same manuscript dates between 1060 and 1087, suggesting the Vitellius may have been composed by Aelfwine but transmitted by a later hand.
