A HALF CENTURY AGO It was scarcely conceivable that Thomas Aquinas and Martin Luther could be mentioned in the same breath, let alone with the conjunction "and" between their names. Four hundred and fifty years of interconfessional rancor and bitterness had been built largely on their respective legacies. How could they be compared, much less be brought into dialogue?
