The use of second person narration can radicalize a story because it can open a window for an experience of reading that is very different from what readers are used to when perusing first- and third-person narrative texts. However, such stories can confuse readers because their typical designation of either the hero/heroine, narrator, the reader or no one in particular using a constant reference to the pronoun 'you.' Author Bill Manhire's use of the second-person narrative in his novel 'The Brain of Katherine Mansfield' including the first two chapters of the book are evaluated.
