Ethiopia recognized the significance of internal auditing as early as the 1930s as reflected in its first constitution. The country was to boost the field again with a 1987 directive that underscored once more the significance of the internal auditing function in various government units and in public businesses. The field in the 1990s continues to concentrate largely on historical functions such as financial and compliance auditing. Most of the internal audit departments in Ethiopia do not have a written audit charter that defines aims, scope of powers and duties and responsibilities. They ...
