Simple maintenance of air quality control equipment is insufficient to prevent the spread of condensation, which can cause malfunctions. Potential problems include condensate drips onto components and poor drain pan design. Condensate spread can be reduced by adjusting fan speed, installing longer plenums/turning vanes, repositioning filters and placing drains flush with pans.

Maintain condensate control for healthier hvac: the key to maintaining healthy air-handling units is to keep moisture to a minimum. (heating, ventilation and air conditioning industry)(excerpt from HVAC Maintenance and Operations Handbook, 1998)
Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration News
; The key to maintaining healthy air-handling units is to keep moisture to a minimum. Suitable condensate control is achieved, and an acceptable hvac maintenance program can be implemented, only when condensate is confined to: 1. Surfaces of the cooling coil; 2. A small and properly sloped condensate

MOISTURE issues are no MATCH for COMMISSIONING.
Engineered Systems
; The building envelope and mechanical system can interact to either master potential humidity problems or encourage them. However, an integrated commissioning approach can pre-empt many pitfalls before they propagate. Frank Lloyd Wright reportedly once stated, If the roof doesn't leak, then the

Don't get caught in a (condensate) trap of your own. (trapping moisture in a heating, ventilating and air conditioning system)
Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration News
; The past 10 years have seen a dramatic change in the design and function of air handlers, due in part to the challenges associated with indoor air quality. Moisture in hvac systems is one area of concern since, if not properly managed, it can lead to the spread of micro-organisms to the conditioned
