Socialist realism in the Australian literary context: with specific reference to the writing of Katharine Susannah Prichard.(Battlers and Stirrers)

Communist writer Katharine Susannah Prichard's career was compromised and unfairly criticised because of her commitment to politics. Literary critics say her writings are flawed by a propagandist slant supporting socialist realism. For some writers, socialist realism was an exciting development in early 20th-century literary theory in Australia.

On 26 December 1933 Katharine Susannah Prichard, ill and thin, was helped down

the gangplank onto the Fremantle wharf. Earlier, in London during her return
