David Iyam is from Agwa Agona, the main Blase village. After spending most of his post-primary school years away from the area he has now written an account of it, apparently based on a Ph.D. thesis. His aims, clearly set out, are: to discuss the 'indigenous coping strategies' of the Blase, a group on the east bank of the lower Cross River, within their historical context, and explore the relationship between current institutions and the exploitation of their environment, their new patterns of social interaction and their economic position.
