Farmers, entrepreneurs and financial and economic experts alike were alarmed by Zimbabwe Pres Robert Mugabe's plan to nationalize about five million hectares of white-owned commercial farmland. They claim that the move would have dire consequences for the economy such as reduced agricultural productivity, employment and GDP. The move is also a far cry from the more reconciliatory land reform initiatives adopted by other African nations.
