Both Pope John Paul II and Castro won new international respect for their handling of the pope's visit to Cuba. Although the pope did not address Castro's challenge on the Euroepan adn Church corruption in the Western Hemisphere, he did agree on the wickedness of the US Embargo against Cuba.
