THE PHOTO ILLUSTRATION in the 1932 Werkbund publication Die Form showed the employee parking lot at Henry Ford's River Rouge plant. It portrayed row upon row of black Model A's, as far as the eye could see. The caption accompanying this photograph emphasized what the editors found remarkable; this was the employee parking lot. At a time when most German workers were going to work on foot, bicycle, or public transportation, American workers could drive their own cars.
