A quarter of a century ago, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam looked like a potentially successful separatist movement. They represented a cohesive minority with legitimate grievances against the majority- controlled government of Sri Lanka. They had a natural base of support among the large Tamil community in southern India. And they had a knack for tactical innovation.
All those resources were squandered. Sri Lanka's civil war came to an apparent end Monday with the killing of the Tamil Tigers' leader, Velupilai Prabhakaran. ...
