One September afternoon in 1997, Joe T. Martinez was helping to clear away some rotted boards from the sanctuary of the old church of La Santisima Trinidad.

Along with volunteers from the Ameri-Corps and the New Mexico Community Foundation, he was there to spirit away debris before the rebuilding process began.
