Midway through Robert Duvall's remarkable performance as Eulliss "Sonny" Dewey in The Apostle I started to like Sonny, and I realized why. Duvall's character reminded me of George C. Scott's portrayal of General Patton. Like Patton, Sonny is a man who gets things done -- though, like Patton, his style is not one with which I'm comfortable. Sonny is a Spirit-filled prodigy who grows up to be an obsessive recruiter for the Lord's army and the pastor of a successful Pentecostal church.
