Do Auburn and William H. Seward have ties to Alaska?

You betcha, as Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will emphasize today as she visits the city for the Founders Day parade and celebration, starting at 11 a.m.

After riding in the parade, Palin is expected to tour the South Street home of Seward. As secretary of state under President Andrew Johnson, Seward brokered the 1867 deal to buy Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million -- or roughly 2 cents per acre.
