WASHINGTON - The Senate Commerce Committee is expected to vote Oct. 8 to approve the nomination of William Kennard as the next chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.
Kennard won the support of chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.) and ranking member Sen. Ernest Hollings (D-S.C.) during a nearly three-hour confirmation hearing last Wednesday. Many but not all senators on the panel also voiced their support.
In fact, aides to McCain said he wants to get four nominees confirmed before Senate recesses in November.
