Traditional Norwegian social democracy and the rejection of the EU: a troublesome victory. (European Union)

The Det Norske Arbeiderpartiet (DNA), or the Norwegian Labor Party, rejected joining the European Union (EU) in 1994, but that referendum did not resolve the DNA's basic factional tensions. Norwegian social democrats saw the EU as challenging traditional nation-state boundaries. Traditional-materialists, post-materialists, modernizers and rural/state dependents form the DNA but will not be able to avoid globalization issues in the future.
