On August 31, 1924, in New York City, Fourth International Convention of Negroes of the World closed with a unique ceremony that celebrated a Blessed Black Man of Sorrows and the Blessed Black Mary. With much fanfare and to a hall filled to capacity, a group of African American ministers declared Jesus to be black (Negro World 6 Sep. 1924: 4).
