I am a fIrm believer in teaching when the need arises - and the need certainly did arise when one of my students turned in this paragraph: "The Greeks' land was very ragged with mountains'.... Since a lot of their land was near the sea, Greek's decided to take advantage of it. They got fish and crabs' from the sea."
Apostrophes can be confusing because they are used in both contractions and possessive nouns, in very particular ways. Here's how I help my students.
