Eagle's death spurs dealer consolidation. (Eagle brand)

The demise of the Eagle brand gives Jeep-Eagle dealers fresh incentive to acquire Chrysler-Plymouth franchises.

Chrysler Corp. said last week that it will discontinue its Eagle brand on Sept. 30, 1998. The slow-selling Eagle Talon sport coupe will be offered through the 1998 model year, but there will be no 1998 Eagle Vision.

So the current 688 Jeep-Eagle dealers will be left without a Chrysler Corp. car to sell in the 1999 model year. The remainder of the 2,340 Jeep-Eagle outlets already handle Chrysler, Dodge or Plymouth cars.
