Meghalaya CM denies political interference in new DGP apptt.

Shillong, May. 19 -- Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang today denied any political interference into the appointment of Anil Pradhan, a junior IPS officer, as the new Director General of Police.
The Meghalaya government had chosen Mr Pradhan to lead the police department even though Director General of Home Guards and Civil Defence W R Marbaniang--a 1975 IPS batch of Assam-Meghalaya cadre - is the seniormost IPS officer in the state.
Mr Pradhan, an IPS officer of the 1977 batch, took over charge from officiating DGP Kulbir Kishan from the 1976 batch.
