The World Health Organization has issued guidelines about the criteria for major contraceptive methods and biomedical considerations for contraceptive practices. The guidelines provide special considerations, restrictions, proper operation and side effects for combined oral contraceptives, progestin-only pills and injectables, implants, intrauterine devices, female sterilization, vasectomy, barrier methods and natural family planning.
